I have read strong opinions on the advantage of GPU vs CPU based rendering. You do not need much GPU horsepower, AMD or NVidia, to drive your monitors for non-gaming pursuits.

I can state for a fact an nVidia 1080 is not the optimal choice for PS/LR if one does not also play computer games but you can objectively research if it really will make a difference rendering video with your specific video processing programs. I use Apple laptops and they seem perfectly adequate for PS/LR despite what is in them even compared to my overclocked Skylake desktop. Or use an Apple laptop with Intel graphics and Apple video drivers.

It is not hard to test the marginal impact of the GPU in PS/LR-just turn it off and see for yourself. It is not clear that an AMD card would be the optimal choice for any video rendering and specifically with the programs you mention but as you have invested in these programs it would behoove you to research this for yourself.

I am interested to see how Apple will manage the electricity eating Vega (if they use its real part and not their traditional crippled notebook part) mated to the equally power hungry Xeon in their new iMac form factor Pro machine without throttling performance. If your video processing program supports CUDA Vega would not seem the optimal GPU choice. I have 1060 6gb that I bought it for $200 which is lucky cause right now it cost $300. I sold my RX480 for $150 but after few days the price increased up to $450. I thought GPU is important at least for video like 4K editingģ. How can I know that Adobe programs getting benefits from CUDA?Ģ. There is a good chance you will have to settle on a 1080 (even though it is overkill) simply because it is the only card available.ġ. A 1060 will do just fine but good luck finding one given the price of Ethereum and Bitcoin. The better the GPU the better but you really dont need a totally high end GPU like a 1080 even for Premiere Pro or After Effects.ģ. If you are basically using Adobe products you are better off with Nvidia cards because of their cuda core acceleration.Ģ. It will be used for Threadripper desktop that Im thinking to build.ġ. I use Capture One Pro, Premier Pro, After Effect, and Photoshop only. I picked Vega but it seems that it consumes too much of power and perform similar or less compared to 1080 ti.
